We visited Langosteria Cucina on a Monday in July. Having visited the Bistro many times in the past, the time had come to step on the main stage. Setting was certainly stylish and solid, modern Milano with a refreshingly upbeat but unobtrusive soundtrack to match. We started with cocktails, a "berry negroni" quite forgettable, and a very nice take on a champagne spritz, Mare Mosso, that should be copied widely. For dinner we opted to start with oysters and proceed with a set menu "Luglio". Wine pairing was guided somewhat helplessly and we ended up with a Viognier (grape in my experience is really hit or miss) from the middle of the country. While the stage was well set the content was a disappointment, the food simply was not well conceived or executed and sometimes plainly bad, and plates almost stumbled onto the scene with little or no explanation beyond the title, e.g. tonno on riso. It seems like Langosteria simply is not about the food, making or presentation and not a line about the story of the menu or idea behind the dish. The first dish for some reason arrived before the oysters and was placed on the table without a word. At first we thought maybe an amuse bouche but it matched the raw tuna on a rice parmigiana "cracker". Likely an ok mouthful but against the backdrop of a negroni, wine had not been served, who knows. Oysters came next together with a second and also not introduced dish, branzino carpaccio served with strings of anchovies and sweet pepper, dosed with an olive oil. This time a complimentary glass of bubbles from Franciacorte accompanied, though it missed the oysters, and this helped. Contrast of the anchovies to the raw, sweet branzino made sense. Next up were raw red shrimp in a lemon marinade that was too tart and bitter for the delicate meat. It didn't work out well and reminded us of buying lemons at the wrong time of the year resulting in similar disappointments. Next two plates were grilled baby squid on spicy sauce and what seemed to be spiny lobster with avocado. This time we remembered to ask for explanations and on what to eat first and that saved the avocado dish. That was the only food highlight of the evening, hint of smokey coal, bit of sharpness and the fattiness of the avocado to complete. The baby octopus hit rock bottom, it tasted like charcoal on a chili sauce and you needed your eyes to find any evidence of seafood. The main dish was a kind of classic, cod on caponata. Caponata was decent enough though not special but the cod was shamefully overcooked, almost to the point of dry and flaky. Final dish was small gnocchi and seafood, pleasant dish on a tomato base that followed well on the taste from the caponata but toned down in terms of sweetness and acid. I bit of a sent off it seemed. All in a all, Cucina Langosteria disappoints as a restaurant. It may be a place to impress a date who doesn't have much appreciation or experience with food but as a food destination it is a big, lazy uninspired miss. We recommend the open Langosteria the bar instead
